Elimination of Industrial Tariffs

At its meeting on February 2, 2022, the Federal Council decided to eliminate industrial tariffs effective January 1, 2024.

From this date, there will be no more import duties on industrial products in Switzerland. In Switzerland, industrial products are defined as all goods except agricultural products (including animal feed) and fishery products. Industrial products include both inputs for production processes of companies (capital goods, raw materials, semi-finished products) as well as consumer goods.
The elimination of industrial tariffs thus covers all goods in Chapters 25-97 of the customs tariff, with the exception of some products classified as agricultural products. You will find a list of the affected products in the attachment.

At the same time, the complex customs tariff for industrial products will be simplified. These measures will facilitate the import of industrial products and provide companies with access to cheaper inputs from abroad.

In the coming months, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), together with the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS), will provide information about necessary adjustments.
