Customs Clearance with Passar and Interfaces to Parcel Service Providers

When it Comes to Exports, Complicated Interfaces Can Often Cause more Trouble than They’re Worth.

Today, we’ll look at why an interface for e-dec to parcel service providers often isn’t worth it and how you can now receive eVV-Export via Passar – simple, efficient, and hassle-free.

“e-dec” is the electronic system for customs clearance in Switzerland and will be replaced by the new Passar system by the end of 2025 at the latest.

Why an e-dec interface with parcel service providers often isn’t worthwhile

Why complicate things when they can be simple? Here are some reasons why an interface with parcel service providers often creates more problems than solutions:

  • High Implementation Costs: Creating and maintaining such an interface can be expensive. Initial development costs and ongoing maintenance fees can quickly skyrocket.
  • Complexity and Maintenance: Integration isn’t just expensive, it’s also complex. Every time something changes – be it a new regulation or a system update – the interface needs to be adjusted. This can lead to significant downtime and additional costs.
  • Alternative Solutions: There are often simpler and more cost-effective alternatives. So why invest in an expensive and complex interface when more efficient methods exist?

Passar and eVV Export

Passar is the new electronic system for data exchange in customs clearance by the Federal Customs Administration. In some cases, you will receive the eVV from the freight forwarder in ‘Passar’ format. To be able to receive these eVV exports via your electronic company account using Chartera-Output, registration in the ePortal is necessary.

Here comes the easy part: How to receive the eVV-Export via Passar:

  1. Log In: Log in to Passar. If you don’t have access yet, you can easily request it here.
  2. Instructions: Follow our guide here (PDF Download).
  3. Original German: “Bestätigungs-Mail: Sobald wir die eVV-Exporte über unser Modul «Swiss eVV» empfangen und verarbeiten können, werden Sie per E-Mail informiert.”

Passar 2.0 Import (eVV-Import)

The transition to eVV imports is expected to start in August 2024 and be fully completed by October 2026.
